An innovative experiment in epistolary radio drama

"For
one week in the middle of the summer a giant eye appears in the sky over the
city. At the end of seven days it disappears as suddenly as it had originally
materialized..."
Guidelines
The curatorial committee of Audacity Theatre Lab will be approaching a number of playwrights, both emerging and regionally established, from across the nation. It is our hope that a number of different voices and imaginations - some of which would not normally be associated on the same project - will add both scope and depth to this experiment.
Each selected writer is to use the above blurb as a springboard for a 1-3 page contribution. This contribution can take the form of... well... anything. Nearly anything. We are doing the project as a radio drama, so spoken or sound related texts are encouraged. We will accept scenes, monologues, letters, news broadcasts, newpaper clippings, diary entries, e-mail correspondence, lecture notes, etc.
These pieces will be put together to form a series of impressions and reactions to The Eye In The Sky.
A public reading by professional actors, supported by several rehearsals with an ATL director, will be held in mid-January 2009 here in Dallas. This reading will be recorded and the resulting recording will be placed as a podcast here on the ATL website.
Deadline for submissions is November 14th, 2008. They can be e-mailed either as a Word document or as a PDF to: audacitytheatrelab@yahoo.com
Please put "EYE IN THE SKY" in the subject heading.
In addition to the piece itself, we would also request a short biographical sketch from each writer, sent in at the same time as the submission.
Each author will recieved recognition listing in all hardcopy documents associated with the project (i.e. programs, press releases, posters, etc.) as well as here on the ATL website. Writers retain all rights to their own individual works. In addition, we at ATL will be happy to link to writer's websites, if requested, here on the ATL website. No monetary compensation will be provided to the contributors by Audacity Theatre Lab ('cause we just don't have it).
