Brad McEntire Brings Summer Tour of his Solo Show ROBERT’S ETERNAL GOLDFISH Back Home to Dallas

After touring his one-person show Robert’s Eternal Goldfish around North America the last few months, playwright/performer Brad McEntire brings his solo comedy home to Dallas for a limited engagement at the Stomping Ground Comedy Theater, 1350 Manufacturing St #109, Dallas, TX 75207. The show concerns Mr. Robert J. Roberts, a man brimming with hate for “so many things” in the world. In particular, he really dislikes people. All people. One day he becomes the unlikely custodian of a magical goldfish and Robert’s misanthropic views are seriously challenged. Can a person be frustrated into being a better human being?

Over the last few months, Robert’s Eternal Goldfish was presented at the Minnesota Fringe Festival, the Nanaimo Fringe in British Columbia and the Elgin Fringe Festival in Illinois.

Brad McEntire is the founding Artistic Director of the Dallas-based Audacity Theatre Lab. He is the creator of over a dozen plays, including Dinosaur and Robot Stop a Train, I Brought Home a Chupacabra, Raspberry Fizz and most recently Que Séra, Giant Monster which was named a winner of the Texas Playwrights Festival at Wordsmyth Theatre in Houston this summer. Since 2010 he has toured his trio of solo shows Chop, Cyrano A-Go-Go and Robert’s Eternal Goldfish to venues and festivals all over North America. He is the founding producer of the Dallas Solo Fest, an annual arts event that brings together solo performers from around the United States to present their shows to the north Texas audiences.

ROBERT’S ETERNAL GOLDFISH plays Fridays, October 5 and October 12, 2018. Both shows at 8:00 PM. At the Stomping Ground Comedy Theater, 1350 Manufacturing St #109, Dallas, TX 75207. Tickets are $10 and available at the door or online at: http://stompinggroundcomedy.org

The Excerpts:

DemiRepubliCan't - Written and Performed by Shelby-Allison Hibbs
In the second installment of Shelby-Allison Hibbs' solo piece on politics and memory, the election results are in! Shelby-Allison has to move from juice boxes to hard liquor as she presses forward in 45's possession of her country. Maybe she'll move to Canada. Maybe she'll sell plasma. Maybe she'll continue to have a codependent relationship with her chihuahuas. Time will tell.

Same Difference - Written and Performed by Chris Sykes
An experimental one-person piece about the casually extreme and nuanced contradictions that exist all around us.

Smell the Roux - Written and Performed by Shayne Larango
A legacy member of the Way to a Man’s Heart, Three Squares, and Clean Your Plate Club resists. An irreverent look at how food culture shapes our lives and our bodies.

CYRANO A-GO-GO at the 2015 Out of the Loop

Brad McEntire in CYRANO A-GO-GO
CYRANO A-GO-GO is an exploration of one restless theatre artist's fascination with the swashbuckling 1897 play Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand. A chance encounter with the script at a suburban public library at the age of 15 leads to a cruel and wonderful calling. Presented as an old-school oration the piece mixes the personal, historical and literary into a journey through Rostand's play. McEntire presents a funny, warm, insightful meditation on the nature of theatricality, the nobility of personal identity and the hard-won lessons of love, unrequited and otherwise.

Brad McEntire in CHOP
After years of traveling to venues and festivals around the country Dallas-based playwright/performer Brad McEntire presents his solo show CHOP for a full run in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area January 29 through February 7, 2015 at the Margo Jones Theatre in Fair Park.

CHOP concerns a man totally isolated from the world around him. A chance meeting with a mysterious tattooed woman leads him to the place he might truly belong… an underground amputation fetish group.

After readings in Seattle (at the Outsider’s Inn Collective) and New York City (Cry Havoc Theatre) McEntire premiered CHOP at the 2010 Out of the Loop Fringe Festival at Addison’s Water Tower Theatre. Since then he has toured and performed the show at multiple venues and festivals, including the Phoenix Fringe Festival, the New Orleans Fringe, Houston Fringe, Portland Mini-Fringe, College of Santa Fe and San Antonio’s Overtime Theatre, 2012 New York international Fringe Festival, Seattle Fringe and New Orleans SoloMania Fest among others. The piece played a two day limited engagement at the Margo Jones Theatre in July 2012.

McEntire is delighted to bring the show back to Dallas for a full two week run.

The piece was directed and sound designed by Andrew J. Merkel of Brooklyn, NY. Brad McEntire wrote, designed and performs the piece.

Winner! Best of Fest at the 2014 Out of the Loop Fringe Festival
ROBERT'S ETERNAL GOLDFISH
Written and Performed by Brad McEntire

In this solo show by Brad McEntire, the audience comes face to face with Mr. Robert J. Roberts. Roberts has a huge problem with people. All people. One day he becomes the unlikely custodian of a magical goldfish and Mr. Roberts' misanthropic view of the world is seriously challenged.

McEntire's an expert at swimming solo onstage, charming the audience with sly looks and inventive storytelling.

Elaine Liner, Dallas Observer

Robert’s Eternal Goldfish works, and McEntire does everything perfectly in his writing, only overshadowing it with his stellar performance in it!

Like a cross between Seinfeld’s George Costanza and comedian Lewis Black.

One of McEntire’s many talents is being able to couch very real meditations on life into extraordinary stories.

THE LAST CASTRATO
By Andy Eninger

Audacity Theatre Lab teams up with Fun House Theatre and Film to present Jeff Swearingen in Andy Eninger's weird and wonderful one-man show THE LAST CASTRATO.

THE LAST CASTRATO centers on Joseph, who was born without a penis, and his love affair with Elena, who was born with her skin inside out. Elena, though, was blessed with a beautiful singing voice to balance her deformity, while Joseph has no talent whatsoever to make up for his missing member. "A penis," he muses, "in terms of artistic merit is worth nothing."

Last presented by Audacity from 2005 to 2007 in festivals from New York to Phoenix, THE LAST CASTRATO returns to the Dallas area for a proper run.

Featuring ATL member and Fun House Creative Director Jeff Swearingen
Written by Andy Eninger
Directed and designed by ATL Artistic Director Brad McEntire

Dribble Funk 380

DRIBBLE FUNK 380
Created and Performed by Brad McEntire

Dallas-based playwright and performer Brad McEntire is turning 38 years of age in September and as a challenge to himself he will attempt a 380 minute solo longform improvisation. He is calling this experiment Dribble Funk 380.

Since 2005 McEntire has been developing a solo improvisational format called Dribble Funk. The longest he has performed the piece to date has been 50 minutes. On September 1, 2013 he will stand alone on the stage and attempt to create nearly six and half hours of spontaneous theatre. From an audience suggestion he will play all the characters, create all the environments and drive the story forward - whatever it may be - single-handedly.

Artistic Director of Audacity Theatre Lab with a background in both traditional and experimental theatre, McEntire is one of a handful of pioneering performers in the sub-arcana of solo improvisation (there are only maybe a dozen or so consistent practitioners in the United States). He is the creator of the original solo improvisational story format Dribble Funk, a hybrid creation at the crossroads of longform improvisation, traditional theatre and storytelling. He is also a playwright, solo performer, visual artist, director, podcast host, webcartoonist and raconteur. More information at: www.BradMcEntire.com

Audiences may come and go, though are encouraged to stay for the entire performance. There will be two short breaks in the performance at the two and four hour marks. Food and drink will be available on site for the duration of the performance. Outside food and beverage are permitted (including alcohol... BYOB). Do not worry. You will be taken care of. It will be an adventure.

"McEntire's knack for creating intricate story arcs, wacky characters and surprise angles on audience suggestions isn't to be missed." - The Dallas Observer
